Beneficial Adaptation Flashcards
1
Q
Why is it important that individuals are adapted for an increased chance of survival?
A
Individuals can reproduce and pass on their favourable alleles to their offspring.
2
Q
What is a behavioural adaptation?
A
A change to an action that increases chance of survival
—> e.g. “playing dead” to avoid predation
3
Q
What is a physiological adaptation?
A
A change to bodily processes to increase chance of survival.
—> e.g. producing venom to kill predators/ protect themselves from predation
4
Q
What is an anatomical adaptation?
A
A change to body structure to increase chance of survival.
—> e.g. thick layer of blubber to keep individuals warm who live in cold habitats
