What are some causes of Bell’s palsy?
A
Idiopathic
Viral infections (HSV-1 reactivation)

What are some clinical features of Bell’s palsy?
A
Unilateral lower motor neurone facial palsy
Forehead will NOT be spared so the patient cannot move forehead on affected side

What is the management of Bell’s palsy?
A
If patient presents within 72 hours: prednisolone
Antivirals plus steroids can be beneficial but discuss with specialist
Lubricating eyedrops

How long can recovery from Bell’s palsy take?
A
Usually several weeks but up to 12 months
