Behaviourist Approach Flashcards
What is the idea of behaviourism
The idea that behaviour is learned by the environment and experiences
What is classical conditioning
Classical conditioning is a type of learning that happens unconsciously. When you learn through classical conditioning, an automatic conditioned response is paired with a specific stimulus.
What is the case study of little Albert
Presented with a white rat that he wasn’t scared of then Pavlov struck a metal pole every time he touched the rat resulting in Little Albert being scared of fluffy animals
What is operant conditioning
Learning through the consequences (positive and negative) of behavioural responses
Positive reinforcement
Increasing the likelihood of the behaviour by using consequences that are pleasant
Negative reinforcement
Increasing the likelihood of the behaviour by using consequences that are unpleasant
Reinforcement
Anything effecting the likelihood of behaviour being repeated
Punishment
Anything decreasing the likelihood of behaviour by using unpleasant consequences
What is skinners box
Animals such as a pigeon learns to press the lever to get food through positive reinforcement and then behaviour is learnt and shaped
