Behaviourist and Learning Approach Flashcards
key assumptions
- behaviour is a learned response from environmental stimuli
- behaviour can be learned from observation and imitation.
define classical conditioning
creating a new association between an old and new stimulus
Role of unconditioned stimulus
a stimulus that leads to an automatic response
Define unconditioned response
an unlearned response that occurs naturally in reaction to the unconditioned stimulus
Define neutral stimulus
a stimulus that doesn’t trigger any response at first
Define conditioned stimulus
a previous neutral stimulus
Define conditioned response
the learned response to the previously neutral stimulus
Define operant conditioning
a process where you learn doing tasks for a reward and avoiding punishments
Learning by consequences
consequences that push you to perform the task right
Role of positive reinforcement
the addition of a reinforcing stimulus following a behaviour
Role of negative reinforcement
the removal of something negative to strengthen a behaviour
negative punishment
Taking away something good to reduce the reoccurence of regular behaviour
Define motivation - extrinsic and intrinsic rewards
Intrinsic motivation - performing a task because you get a reward
Extrinsic motivation - completing a task to avoid punishment and to just get it done
Define social learning theory
Social behaviour that is learned by observing and imitating the behaviour of others
Learn through observation and imitation
Imitation - copying the models behaviour
Observation - only watching the model who is doing the action
