Behaviourism Flashcards
define behaviorism
all behaviour is learnt from the environment
classical conditioning

pavlov
learning through association
overview of pavlovs dog experiment
1)unconditioned stimulus paired with unconditioned response
2) neutral stimulus= no conditioned response
3) both stimulus = unconditioned response
4) conditioned stimulus= conditioned response
operant conditioning

skinner
learning through consequences
Positive reinforcement
Increases likelihood of the response. Eg. Reward
Negative reinforcement
Increases likelihood of the response. Involves removal of unpleasant consequences. Eg. Removal of electric grid
Positive punishment
Decreases the likelihood of behaviour. Involves receiving something unpleasant. Eg. Shock or smack
Negative punishment
Decreases liklihood of the behaviour. Removal of something desirable. Eg. Toys taken away
