What is the attachment theory?
A strong emotional and physical attachment to at least one primary care giver is critical to for the child’s social and emotional development.
Particularly essential for child to learn how to effectively regulate feelings, be able to form good relationships in future, self-esteem
What is reactive attachment disorder?
Condition seen in children who have not been able to form a healthy emotional attachment with their primary care givers.
Two types of reactive attachment disorder.
Inhibited
Disinhibited
Features specific to inhibited reactive attachment disorder?
Withdrawn
Unresponsive or resistant to comforting
Excessively inhibited
Hypervigilant
Features specific to disinhibited reactive attachment disorder?
Seeking comfort from anyone, even strangers
Extremely dependent
Inappropriately familiar
Immature

What is conduct disorder?
Repetitive pattern of behaviour which significantly deviates from age-related and social norms.
What are the core symptoms of conduct disorder? When can a diagnosis be made?
- Defiance of authority
- Aggression
- Anti-social behaviour (vandalism, theft etc.)
When three acts of been exhibited within 12 months, in multiple places (school, home, community).
Treatment of attachment disorder?
Psychological therapy (play therapy, family therapy) Parenting skills education
Treatment of conduct disorder?
- Parent training programmes
- Individual cognitive therapy
- Work together with individual, parents, school.
