1. Result of the environmental situation a person is in, so a good person in a bad environment can still behave unethically
2. Result of attitude or personality of an individual and the environment is less important.

Evidence suggests environment IS an important factor

1. Critical in determining the behaviour of employees.
2. Good corporate ethics is enhanced by good corporate governance.
3. Includes things like strong in internal procedures and fair remuneration packages
4. Encouraging employees to take some degree of personal responsibility for their actions.

At a personal level, what are some motivations for unethical behaviour?

Answer 3

1. Under pressure or incentives to perform. Greater risk-taking for short term rewards.
2. Ability to blame others. (You should take responsibility for your actions)
3. Ability to rationalise unethical behaviour.
4. Lack of rigour e.g. Not conducting enough/ proper research.
5. Disregard for clients.
6. Failure to act. I.e. unethical by omission
