Behavioural Genetics Flashcards
1
Q
What is genotype and phenotype?
A
Genotype: inheritance and genetic coding = height, intelligence
Phenotype: Physical expression of genes; environment = psychiatric disorder (genotype interacts w/ environ. for phenotype expression
2
Q
what is polygenetic inheritance
A
no one gene for attribute X
* genes and alleles interact together
3
Q
Adoption Studies
A
EX: extroversion and IQ
*testing to see if similar to adoptive family (environment) vs biological (genes)
4
Q
Family Study
A
- compare relatedness w/ how similar they are (concordance)
EX: Schizophrenia- as relatedness increases, so does risk
EX: Twin Psychiatric - MZ twins have higher CR% but not 100% meaning environ. plays a part
5
Q
Twin Study Caveat
A
MZT vs MZA
- n.s in height, weight, iq, personality
- we elicit EN around us and based on our genes - have to be in situation that allows genes to do so
