What is preparatory information?
Technique that can also decrease parental anxiety
E.g. use slow speed on fingernail first or using the probe on fingernail first
What is voice control?
Use of a firm high pitch voice which then moves to a lower pitch
Can help to control a child’s behaviour
What is enhanced control?
Allowing pt a false degree of control
Allow them to choose which treatment first e.g. FS or varnish
Stop rest and go technique falls under this
What is tell, show, do
Tell what happen
Show on a dummy or on nail / arm
Do the treatment
What is behaviour shaping and positive reinforcement?
Smiling, positive voices, stickers / badges
Tell the patient they’re doing a good job of holding mouth open so wide
What distraction techniques can be used?
Music, audiobook, tapes
Magic light trick
Tug of war when placing a PMC
