Apgar Score- assessment of newobrn vital signs following labor via a 10 point scale evaluated at 1 minutes and 5 minutes. based on Appearance, Pulse, Grimace, Activitiy, And Respiration (7-10= good; 4-6= assist and stimulate; 0-3= resusitate)
Low brth weight is defined as less than 2500 g. caused by prematurity or intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR). Associated with icnreased risk of sudden infant death syndrome.
Other problems include impaired thermoregulation and immune function, hypoglycemia, polcythemia, and development.
