Beforee Audio And Visual Input Flashcards
What is data?
Raw facts and figures that is meaningless to the user. Data is unprocessed
What is information?
Information is processed facts and figures that is useful to the user
What is input?
Input is the accepting of data into a computer system via input devices
What is output?
Output is the information delivered to the user via output devices
What is processing?
Processing is the conversion if data to information for output and storage purposes
What is storage?
Storage is the holding of information to be used at a later date or instructions to be processed immediately
What is a supercomputer?
A supercomputer is designed to process complex scientific calculations applications and are typically used for number crunching in scientific simulations, and in scientific research
What are mainframes?
Mainframes are expensive, powerful computers that offer large processing and storage capacities which is less than a super computer but more than a typical desktop. Mainframes allow thousands of users simultaneously
What are desktop computers?
The desktop computer was designed to stay in a single location. It is made up of a system unit, monitor, keyboard and mouse
What is a hard drive?
A hard drive is a magnetic storage device that stores data via direct access
What is direct access?
Direct access allows us to find and store data by going directly to the source of the data rather than going through all the data
What is magnetic tape?
Magnetic tape is a real of plastic tape that is coated in metal oxide that allows data to be written and read using magnetized and magnetized spots, which is then converted to 1s and 0s
What is cloud storage?
Cloud storage is the use of network servers which is accessible via the internet that allows users to store, manage and process data
What are input devices
An input device is a hardware peripheral device that accepts data and places into the computer system
What is a pointing device?
A pointing device is a hardware device that allows the user to control a digital pointer across the screen based on the physical movement of the device.
