Onto the instrument panel of the before start checklist:

  1. Ensure the fuel selector valve is on BOTH
  2. Verify the fuel shutoff valve is in the on position, or full forward position.
  3. Check that the mixture control is in the idle cutoff or full aft position.
  4. Transition into the standby battery switch and hold the switch in the test position for 10 seconds, and while you’re testing the battery, you must ensure the green light stays lit the entire time without looking away, otherwise it may dim, indicating a failure of the test. At the completion of the 10 seconds, move the switch up to the armed position and wait for the g1000 to power on.
  5. Once the PFD turns on, check that all indicators are working, which is indicated by the absence of red x’s
  6. Verify that the electrical buses are showing the proper loads based on the checklist, and verify the standby battery annunciatior is shown.
  7. Adjust the panel lights if required and confirm that the beacon light is turned on. If flying at night, the navigation light should also be turned on.
  8. Make sure that the cabin power switch is turned off
  9. Check that all the circuit Breakers are in
  10. Double check that the parking brake is set
  11. Finally, make sure all occupants have their seat belts on
  12. After running through the checklist, Verify that all items are complete. Then say, “before start checklist complete.”
