What are the elements of taste?
Sweet, Salty, Sour/Acid, Bitter, Umami (Fat, Carbonation and Metallic)
What are the components of Evaluation?
Apperance, Aroma, Taste, Mouthfeel, Finish (Aftertaste)
How should you asses aroma?
Short, quick sniffs.
How should you asses color and clarity?
Use a consistent background.
What malt and grain flavors are present in pale beer?
Uncooked flour, and bread dough.
What malt and grain flavors are present in golden beer?
White bread, wheat bread, crackers.
What malt and grain flavors are present in light amber beer?
Bread crust, biscuit, graham crackers.
What malt and grain flavors are present in amber beer?
Toast, caramel, piecrust
What malt and grain flavors are present in brown beer?
Nutty, toffee, chocolate, dark/dried fruit.

Roast, burnt, coffee.

Piney, citrus and resiny
What traits are English hops known for?
Earthy, herbal and woodsy
