is wherein the patient lies flat on the back
Supine position
the patient lies on the abdomen with their head turned to one side and the hips are not flexed.
Prone Position
Patient lies on the side of the body with the top leg over the bottom leg
Side lying
Patient lies between SUPINE and PRONE with legs flexed in front of the patient. Arms should be COMFORTABLE placed beside the patient, not underneath.
Lateral recumbent/Sims Position
refers to a patient lying on their back (supine) with their knees BENT, feet FLAT on the bed or table, and arms typically at their sides or crossed over their chest.
Dorsal Recumbent
Is a medical position where the patient lies on their back with their hips and knees flexed, thighs apart, and feet placed in stirrups to support the legs. LEGS UP/FEET UP
Lithotomy
Involves LOWERING THE HEAD of the bed and RAISING THE FOOT of the bed of the patient. The patient’s arms should be tucked at their sides
Trendelenburg
is a position wherein the HEAD of the bed IS ELEVATED with the FOOT of the BED DOWN. It is the opposite of Trendelenburg’s position.
Reverse Trendelenberg
is a bed position wherein the head of the bed is elevated 90 DEGREES
High Fowler
is a bed position wherein the head of the bed is elevated 45 DEGREES
Semi Fowler
