“bullets smacking the belly out of the air”- metaphor the order of the two words ‘belly’ and ‘air’ really emphasizes the shock this person is in and is causing his words to stumble
“sweating….”
“sweating like molten” - shear horror of war. the simile shows that the war is un comparable to anything else and he cannot describe what it is
