A

Occupies an irregular rectangular plot most likely provided by a private benefaction
Well preserved service area has fittings for water wheel
Underneath the western side of the baths is a mithraeum
Wasn’t built before the end of the 2nd century
The baths of mithras seem to have fallen out of use by the 4th century
Heating facilities were abandoned and Christian oratory installed
Old baths now used as baptism fronts
Ostias aqueducts were unable to cope with the increase of water demand when city population increased which is why they needed a water wheel
