Basics of Microcontrollers & Embedded Systems Flashcards
Unit 1
1
Q
What is a microcontroller?
A
- “computer on a chip”
- designed for s specific application
- generally involves human interaction or control
- considered the brain of the device
- makes mathematical calculations
- acquires, stores, processes data
- communicates with other components
2
Q
How does an ECG work?
A
- Leads connected to left & right arm, right ankle
- signals from LA, RA to amplifier
- amplified signal to microcontroller
- microcontroller to display, storage, wireless comm, and power
3
Q
Input
A
the signal/information going to the board
ex: Buttons, switches, light sensors, flex sensors, humidity sensors, temp sensors…
4
Q
Output
A
any signal exiting the board
ex: LED’s, DC motors, Servo motors, piezo buzzers, relays, RGB LEDs
5
Q
Are microcontrollers analog or digital?
A
microcontrollers are digital ( On or OFF) aka discrete
