- designed for s specific application
- generally involves human interaction or control
- considered the brain of the device
- makes mathematical calculations
- acquires, stores, processes data
- communicates with other components

How does an ECG work?
A
- Leads connected to left & right arm, right ankle
- signals from LA, RA to amplifier
- amplified signal to microcontroller
- microcontroller to display, storage, wireless comm, and power
