check before driving
- make sure no pedestrians/children are behind or around your car
- tires
- check under the car for fluid leaks

- lock doors
- adjust seat and seat back
- adjust your head restraint
- adjust inside and outside rear view mirrors
- seat belt
adjust your seat and seat back requirements
10 inches away from the steering wheel
holding the steering wheel
- left hand hold at a 9 oclock position right @ 3
2. relax arms while driving
head restraint requirements
center of the head restraint should be at the top of the ears
adjust inside mirror
have to see what is happening behind you as much as possible, frame it within the back mirror of the car
adjust side view mirrors??
should be able to see your car in the smallest portion and what is happening at your side
P (park)
to be used when leaving the vehicle parked, engine will start in park
R (reverse)
vehicle will not start in reverse
N (neutral)?
wheels are not locked but there is no power to the wheels; engine will start on a neutral
steering
Left 9:00 right 3:00
turning use hand over hand
when straightening the car let the steering wheel loosely go back to its position while keeping contact
accelerating
Gradually press
on the accelerator to move the vehicle,
and then hold it at the proper position for
the selected speed. Do not accelerate so quickly that the vehicle tires spin
Braking
- start braking early, breaking too late will not work because your braking distance may not be enough
- to finish breaking release pressure on the brake and then apply it gently again when coming to a stop
threshold braking??
applying the brakes without locking the wheels, if the wheels lock release pressure on the brake slightly
Reversing
- must be done at walking or crawl speeds
- put your left hand on the steering wheel, shift to your right hip, turn your head to the back of the car and place your right and on the back of the passenger’s seat and reverse
- to reverse to the left look behind your left shoulder and vise versa
- when reversing to your left the back of the car will turn left while the front of the car turns right and vise versa
