What are the Five Precepts?
Do not harm any living thing (intentionally)
Do not steal - this includes ideas.
Do not indulge in sexual misconduct.
Do not speak falsely.
Do not take intoxicating substances
What are the Ten Commandments?
1) You shall have no other Gods before me.
2) You shall not make idols.
3) You shall not take the name of the name of the Lord in vain.
4) Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.
5) Honour your father and mother.
6) You shall not murder.
7) You shall not commit adultery.
8) You shall not steal.
9) You shall not bear false witness.
10) You shall not covet.
What are the points on the Eight Fold Path?
Right viewpoint - of the Buddha’s teachings
Right thought - thinking kindly
Right speech - not telling lies or using angry words
Right action - not harming another person or animal
Right living - which does not make offers suffer
Right effort - thinking before you act
Right awareness - being alert and aware
Right concentration - for a calm and focused mind.
What are the Four Noble Truths?
Life involves suffering.
The cause of suffering is craving.
If craving ceases, suffering will also cease.
Stop craving by following the middle way and the Eight Fold Path.
What is Ahmisa?
Respect and kindness for all living things and the avoidance of violence towards others.
What is Karuna?
Compassion.
What is Metta?
Loving kindness.
What is Nirvana?
The end of suffering and no more rebirths. This is found through enlightenment.
What is Karma?
Karma means deeds and actions. Buddhists believe that Karma impacts what realm you’re born into. Good actions = good Karma.
What is the Golden Rule?
Treat other people like you want to be treated.
What is the Sanctity of Life?
Life is a gift from God - only God can give and take life.
What is Imago Dei?
In the image of God.
What is Stewardship?
Looking after the world and looking after the resources on it. The world must be given back as we found it.
What are the Two Commandments of Jesus?
Love the lord, your God, with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.
Love your neighbour as you love yourself.
