Basic Science Flashcards
What are the adrenergic receptor
Alpha 1
Alpha 2
Beta 1
Beta 2
What is the function of alpha 1
Since alpha one is the smallest, so think of the constriction.
So the alpha 1 will constrict the vessel, pupillary dilator muscle and bladder neck.
Which result in
vasoconstriction
Mydriasis
Bladder outlet obstruction
What is the function of alpha 2
Think of alpha 1 is constrict and the vessel is small, so the alpha 2 don’t like it and block the release of hormone and neurotransmitter.
Inhibit the released of noradrenaline and acetylcholine
Inhibit the release of insulin
What is the function of beta 2
Beta 2 is the largest among the receptor.
So is the biggest, dilated. Due to relaxation of the smooth muscle. So it will have
Vasodilation
Bronchodilation
Relaxation of uterus smooth muscle
What is the function of beta 1
You linked the beta 2 to beta 1
Since the beta 2 result in dilation of the vessel.
So the beta 1 will increase the blood flow to the big vessel by increased contraction of heart and increased HR.
Beta 1 also cause increased renin production in kidney. Renin will form angiotensin II which stimulate the aldosterone to reabsorb more water and sodium which increased the blood volume.
