What is the most basic form of rigging in Maya?
Parenting an object to another
Describe the short-cut method of parenting an object to another.
Select the child and then shift-select the parent then press “p”
Describe the method of parenting an object to another using the menu.
Select the child and then shift-select the parent then go to “Edit” –> Parent (click the if you want more options)
Describe the method of parenting an object to another using the outliner.
(In the outliner) select child object, middle-click & drag into the parent object
What is X-ray joints? Where is it found?
This allows you to see joints through a 3d object no matter what shading. It is found under the Shading menu of the viewport.
How do you un-parent an object
Shift + p
What are the hot keys for editing the pivot point of an object?
The “Insert” key (keeps in edit pivot mode) or hold down the d key for temporary access.
How do you show the local rotation axes?
This is under the display menu.
Display –> Transform Display –> Local rotation axes
By default what is the orientation of joints
X points down the chain - the last join orientates itself to world (Y up)
How do you change the joint display size?
This is under the Display menu. (Display –> Animation –> Joint size
