What does DRSABCD stand for?
Dangers, Responsiveness, Send for help, Airway, Breathing, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Defibrillation.
What does ‘Dangers’ stand for?
Make sure the environment is safe, potential risks and hazards, minimise or eliminate.
What does ‘Responsiveness’ stand for?
Firmly tap on the collar bone, shout and squeeze their shoulder or arm.
What does ‘Send for Help’ stand for?
Dial 111 (you or someone else)
What does ‘Airway’ stand for?
Bring your face close to the person’s face so you can hear breath noises, see their chest rise and fall.
What does ‘Breathing’ stand for?
- For adults: Head tilt, chin lift
- For children: chin lift only
What does ‘Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation’ stand for?
Begin CPR: 30 chest compressions and 2 rescue breaths.
What does ‘Defibrillation’ stand for?
- Turn it on and follow the comprehensive voice.
- Right pad on the right collarbone.
- Left pad beneath the armpit.
What do you do when a baby is choking?
If responsive:
For babies: send for help
1. 5 blow back between shoulder blades
2. 5 chest compressions with two fingers; center of the chest.
If unresponsive: send for help
1. start CPR
