What does DR ABC stand for?
Danger Response Airway Breathing Circulation
The 3p’s
Preserve life
Prevent deterioration
Promote recovery
Describe the process of the Primary Survey
Remove any obstacles or hazardous materials
Check for response, vocal, shake, tap
Call for help
Head tilt/Chin lift (2 fingers on chin and gently lift)
Check breathing (rise and fall in chest, sound or feel of breath)
CPR (2 EVERY SECOND) + 2 rescue breaths (use face shield if available) + pinch the nose, see the chest rise
If casualty regains consciousness, place in recovery position and stay with them
What is the Chain of survival?
A series of events that can increase the casualty’s survival

Describe the process of the Secondary Survey
Head + neck (check for bruising, swelling, bleeding, discharge
Chest and Shoulders (check for bruising, fractures)
Pockets and Clues (no sharp objects)
Arms and Legs (bleeding, bruises, fractures)
Abdomen and Pelvis (bruising, swelling)
How to perform first aid for choking?
1) Encourage to cough
2) 5 firm blows between the shoulder blades
3) Abdominal thrust x3 (fist 1 hand + grip with the other)
What is Anaphylaxis?
Over reaction to the bodies immune system
What does Anaphylaxis cause?
Massive quantities of Histamine
Swelling of the airway capillaries
Restricted windpipes
Blood vessels dilate, falls in blood pressure
What helps a casualty with severely low blood pressure?
Lying down with their feet raised
What are signs of Anaphylaxis?
A hoarse voice
Noisy breathing
Tight Chest
Swelling of the tongue, lips or throat
