Basic knowledge CH 4 microscope Flashcards
Should not be used on lens
Xylene
Measurement of the resolving power of a microscope
Numerical aperture
Limit of usable magnification (Tell how small and how close individual objects can be and still be recognized)
Resolution
10x lens and used for initial scanning for blood films and urine sediments, as an example.
Lower-Power lenses
40x lens, used for detailed study such as histologic sections and wet preparation.
High power lenses
100x, used for morphoric examination of blood films and microbes.
Oil-immersion lenses
What is the function of the oil for the oil immersion lens?
The oil is used to increase the NA and thus the resolving power of the objective.
Eyepiece; lens that magnifies the image formed by the objective
Ocular
Primary image formation and play a central role in determining the quality of images
Objective lenses
Controls the amount if light passing through the material under observation
Aperture
Directs and focuses the beam of light from the bulb onto the material under examination.
Condenser
Controls the amount of light shining up into the slide
Diaphragm
If one objective is in focus and a change is made to another, the focus will not be lost
Parfocal
The microscope is adjusted in such a way that the light path through the microscope, from the light source to the eye of the observer is correct.
Alignment
What is the most common type of microscope used for general laboratory work?
Compound microscope (Bright field microscope)
