Basic Electricity Flashcards
What is potential difference
Potential difference is commonly referred to as voltage. This is the force or pressure which causes electrons to move through a circuit. The letters E and V represent voltage
What are the six known methods of producing voltage
- friction
- pressure
- heat
- light
- chemical action
- magnetism
What is current
Current is the movement of electrons within a circuit. Amperage is the term used to measure this movement across certain points of a circuit. The letter I or A represent current
What is resistance
Resistance is the opposition of current flow. Ohms is the unit used to measure this resistance.
The letter R or the Omega symbol
What are some factors that determine resistance
- diameter
- length
- temperature
- materials
What are the components of an electrical circuit
- power source
- load
- conductor
- switch control element
What is a series configuration
Hey Siri circuit has but one path for the current to flow. Current is the same at all points
What is parallel configuration
A parallel circuit is a circuit that has More than one path for the current to flow. the current divides equally
What is a series parallel configuration
A series parallel circuit may have multiple loads in parallel and a load or loads in series.
What are the two classifications of batteries
Batteries are composed of two or more basic units called cells, classified as either primary or secondary
What is a primary cell
A primary cell consist of carbon and zinc rods called electrodes.
The most useful type of primary cell is the dry cell.
What happens to batteries connected in a series
Batteries in series will increase voltage and the amperage will remain the same
What happens to batteries connected in a parallel
Batteries in parallel will increase amperage and voltage will remain the same
What is a secondary shell
Secondary cells are normally used in rechargeable systems. They are similar to primary. To come in types are lead/acid used in vehicles, and nickel/cadmium used in rechargeable dry cell batteries
What is the purpose of a capacitor
A capacitor stores electrons
What does PAN stand for
Percussion actuated non-electric disruptor
It is also capable of impacting two or more targets inside the bomb with an isochronicity of 500 microseconds or less
What type of command initiation does the PAN disruptor use
Shock tube
what type of ammunition does the PAN disruptor use
It uses standard 12 gauge shotgun shells, blanks and special modified loads
What are the two general disruption concepts
General disruption
Specific disruption
There could be scenarios where a combination of general and specific disruption is required
What is a general disruption
The general disruption consist of shooting into a general area of the device without specific target acquisition. This concept is that the projectile, usually water, will open the package, disrupt the explosives and firing train. This technique may function a bomb
What is precise disruption
Precise disruption consist of attacking a specific component or area of the device. These components are generally the power source and wires.
