What are the two types of plays you can choose from?
Scripted or Improvised PLAY.
What does ‘Mood and Atmosphere’ refer to?
The overall feeling in a moment, such as tension, suspense, or sadness.
What is a Tragedy?
A play that deals with serious subject matter, possibly human suffering in a dignified manner.
What is a Comedy?
A humorous play.
What is a Tragi-comedy?
A drama that includes both dramatic, tragic, and humorous events.
What are Production Skills?
The dramatic choices we make to add quality and value to our theatre.
Examples include flashback/forward, aside, mime, physical theatre, monologue/soliloquy, freeze frame, voice over, split stage, narrator, slow motion, etc.
What is Linear Structure?
Chronological order.
What is Non-Linear Structure?
Moves about in time, e.g., flashback, flash-forward, or aside.
What is Naturalistic Style?
Believable and reaches a natural climax for the audience to reach a satisfied and meaningful end.
What is Non-Naturalistic Style?
May include more than one storyline, keep the audience guessing, break the fourth wall, or use a range of styles within the work.
What is the Theme or Issue of a piece?
What the piece is about, the message, or the awareness being raised, e.g., bullying, mental health, family conflict, abuse, terrorism.
What is the Time Period for the piece?
21st Century; Present Day.
Who is the Target Audience?
The specific group you are raising awareness for, e.g., teenagers for bullying on social media or women’s aid charity volunteers for domestic violence.
What are Production Choices?
The choices we make to add quality and value to our theatre.
Examples include sound, lighting (including projection), hair & make-up, costume, props, and set.
