basic conditioning effects Flashcards
acquisition
the development of the conditioned response (CR) when the conditioned stimulus (CS) is paired with the unconditioned stimulus (US)
factors that influence pavlovian conditioning
salience of the CS
US intensity
Temporal Spacing
define salience of CS
the more vivid the CS, the faster the animal with learn the association
very loud works faster
define US intensity
the more intense the US, the faster the rate of learning with be
sicker you feel=better association
define temporal spacing
the degree of association depends on the timing of the CS and US presentation.
conguanty- how close the things happen
types of temporal spacing
delayed conditioning- best learning
trace conditioning- okay
simultaneous conditioning- poor
backwards conditioning- poor
stimulus generalization
organisms will not only respond to trained stimulus, but to other similar stimulus
ex- little albert
generalization gradient
the less similar the stimulus is to the training stimulus, the less vigorous the response will be
generalization decrement
the decrement in the response when the stimulus is changed
define summation
two separate stimulus are conditioned separately to elect the same CR, the intensity of the response will be double when the two stimuli are presented together
define second order conditioning
a new stimulus (CS2), when paired with and established stimulus (CS1) that already has CR, will also begin to elicit the conditioned response
