What is hardware?
Hardware is the physically components of a computer
What is software?
Software is any program that runs on a computer
Name three computer systems that are not a computer.
Mobile phones, supermarket tills and cash machines
What does CPU stand for?
Central Processing Unit
Give some examples of an input device.
Mouse, keyboard and scanners
What must all computer systems have?
CPU and at least one input device
What do input devices do?
Input devices take real world data and convert it into a form that can be stored on the computer.
What happens when an input is entered.
It is processed and the computer system will generate outputs.
Give some examples of an output device.
Speaker monitor printer
Give some examples of storage devices.
Hard disk, Flash memory devices and floppy disks
Why does the computer may need to use stored data (secondary storage)?
It may need it to preform processing and as a result of processing input may generate data that is then stored
What things can a hard disk hold large amounts of?
Databases, text documents, programs, music files and photographs
What is the memory also called and what does it do?
The memory is also called primary memory and is used for holding instructions currently being executed and data that is being used
