Basic Cell Structure Flashcards
What are cells?
The basic units of living things.
What is the function of the nucleus?
Controls all cell activities.
What is the function of the cell membrane?
Controls what enters and leaves the cell.
What is the function of the mitochondria?
Where energy is produced, or converted. Respiration.
What is the function of the chloroplasts?
Trap light energy and carry out photosynthesis.
What is the function of the vacuole?
Stores sap, (watery fluid), allows cell to control water content.
What is the function of the cell wall?
Gives the cell structure and support.
What is the function of the ribosomes?
Involved in protein synthesis production.
What is the function of plasmids?
Rings of DNA.
Plants have?
Largest.
A cell wall, a vacuole, a nucleus, cell membrane, cytoplasm, mitochondria, chloroplasts.
Animal cells have?
Second largest.
Cell membrane, nucleus, cytoplasm and mitochondria.
Bacterial cells have?
Smallest.
Plasmid, DNA (genetic information), cell membrane, cytoplasm, cell all and a flagellum.
Fungal cell?
Second smallest.
Cytoplasm, cell wall, vacuole, cell membrane, nucleus, ribosome and mitochondria.
Why do you stain cells?
So you can identity the different parts.
What is the function of a flagellum?
For movement.
