What is a foul ball?
When a ball rolls to the outside of the 1st base or 3rd base and does not come back into fair territory.
If a ball is not touched by a defensive player and is rolling towards foul territory but rolls into fair territory before reaching the base is a fair ball.
What is a double play?
A double play occurs when two outs are made during the same play
What is a triple play?
A triple play occurs when three outs are made during the same play
Usually very rare
What is the strike zone?
It’s approximately the width of the home plate (17”) and goes from the knees to the chest of the batter
What are balls and walks?
If the ball is pitched to the outside of the strike zone and the batter doesn’t hit it, its a ball.
If the pitcher throws 4 balls, the batter is awarded a free pass to first base.
What is running the bases?
After a batter hits a fair ball, they must run the bases in order; 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and home
If the batter makes it to first, its a single
If the batter makes it to second, its a double
If the batter makes it to third, its a triple
If the batter makes it all around and back to home, its called a home run
