Baroque period of music.

A

1600-1750 Composers began to write for specific instruments or groups of instruments. The most important keyboard instruments was the harpsichord and the pipe organ. The most significant factor contributing to the development of instrumental music in the baroque period was the mergence of the violin family.

What is a ritornello?

A

The opening thematic section that returns wholly or in part at times during a baroque piece; in a baroque concerto, ritornellos are played by the soloist and orchestra together.

Circle of fifths

A

A particular chord or key progression used in classical, jazz, and popular music, in which each chord or key functions as the dominant of the one that follows. The chords move down in fifths(7 semitones). Also known as 4-7-3-6-2-5-1
