- any patient with BMI over 40
- patient with BMI over 35 and significant co-morbidities
- must have trialled and failed weight loss therapy previously for 6 months
- must be counselled about risks and well educated
- agree to life long follow up

What is liraglutide?

What is liraglutide used for?

How does GLP-1 work?
GLP-1 is secreted from the gut and acts on hypothalamus to cause feeling of fullness
What are the disadvantages of liraglutide?
daily injection, expense, requires continuous treatment
What are the side effects of liraglutide?
belching, sulfur burps, acute pancreatitis
How does orlistat/xenical work?
impairs fat absorption, causing steatorrhoea and leading to avoidance of fatty foods
