A
  • loss of anatomical landmarks, access issues - large cheeks, tongue
  • ID blocks may be harder
  • intra-oral radiography
  • long procedures could lead to acute leg oedema
  • excessive fat in tissues and absorption of medication

what are the dental implications of bariatric patients?

A

caries:
- higher caries risk due to diet high in processed sugars

wound healing:
- extractions, surgical PDL treatment, biopsies, bariatric patients more likely to have reduced immune function - delayed wound healing

tooth-wear:
- erosive tooth wear, sugary and acidic drinks etc.
