Baptism & The Lord's Supper Flashcards
What are the two ordinances of a church?
Baptism and the Lord’s Supper
What is an ordinance?
A Symbol
What is baptism?
Baptism is an ordinance we submit to as an outward sign or witness that we have experienced salvation through Christ.
What is the method of baptism used?
Baptism is done by immersion of the believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost; it signifies our death to sin and our resurrection to new life in Christ.
What is the Lord’s Supper?
The Lord’s Supper is an ordinance we practice in the church that commemorates the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ
What do the elements of The Lord’s Supper signify?
The bread signifies the body of our Lord, which He gave to die on the cross of Calvary; and the cup signifies His blood, which was shed at Calvary for the forgiveness of our sins.
Matthew 28:18-20 affirms?
““Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’”
I Peter 3:21-22 affirms?
“…and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at God’s right hand…”
John 3:5 affirms?
“Jesus answered, ‘Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.’”
