Bandura Social Model Study Flashcards
Aim
To investigate if children will perform aggressive acts if they see an adult doing it, and if they are more likely to follow a same sex model
Procedure
The children were split into three groups who were 4shown nothing, an aggressive role model, and a passive role model, then
Matched pairs
The groups were decided based on previously existing aggression, so that one aggressive child would not skew the data of the group
Experiment
They were shown aggression by a model punching or verbally abusing a doll, then taken to play with toys, then removed from the toys to arouse aggression, then watching to see if they would take out their anger on anything, and to see if the role model would have an effect
Results
Same sex models are more effective, and children are more aggressive if shown aggressive behaviour from an adult.
Explanation
ARRM: The children pay attention to someone they trust, retain the knowledge of how to deal with anger aggressively, are able to replicate the behaviour on the doll, and are motivated to do so by the arousal of anger
