Q
aims
A
to find out if aggression learnt by copying others would be repeated in a new setting. in this new setting, the role model would not be present.
2
Q
procedures
A
- children aged 3 to six years
36 boys and 36 girls were divided into three groups.
there was a control group of children who did not see a model
there were two groups who were exposed to adult models who behaved in either aggressive or non aggressive ways. half of each group saw a same sex model.
the children were then tested in different situations to see how much they would imitate the aggressive acts.
after exposure to the model, all participants were put in situation designed to frustrate them. this was to increase the likelihood of aggression being displayed.
children were allowed to play and were observed by their aggressive acts.
3
Q
results
A
children who observed violent models imitated their exact behaviours and were more aggressive than those who did not se an aggressive model.
4
Q
conclusions
A
observation and imitation can explain how specific acts are learnt and that this occurred without reinforcements.
