Ballard’s Sup School Flashcards
Define Situational Awareness.
A detection of elements in the environment within a volume of space and time. The comprehension of their meaning, and the projection of their status in the near future.
Define Analytical decision making?
Identify problems, generate options, use strategies to evaluate options concurrently, implement the preferred option.
Define Rule Based decision making?
Using an established set of rules to achieve a solution once the problem has been diagnosed
Define Recognition Primed decision making?
Making decisions in a time limited high stress situation based on experience, reading the situation, selecting a course of action, and generating a solution.
What do the Navy and CG program manuals say regarding having emergency equipment available on the side?
“Emergency equipment will be as close as practical” NDM
“At a minimum the following emergency care equipment must be located at or in proximity of the dive side.” CPM Vol I
Diving platform requirements per NDM? 6-10
Be seaworthy.
-Include Coast Guard required lifesaving and other safety gear
-Have a reliable engine
-Provide room for divers to dress
-Be able to carry all diving safety equipment.
-Have a well trained crew.
-Carry other safety equipment required by unit SOP.
What is the treatment for a diver that makes an uncontrolled ascent from 50fsw or shallower and is symptomatic?
Immediate recompression to 60fsw in the chamber for initial response. TT5 is not appropriate. Recommend TT6 for depths 50fsw or shallower.
What is the treatment for a diver that makes an uncontrolled ascent from deeper than 50fsw and is showing symptoms?
100% O2, collect vitals en route to chamber. Immediate recompression to 60fsw, contact UMO. Recommend continuing to depth of significant relief not to exceed 165fsw and coming out on TT6A.
What are the primary objectives of recompression treatment?
Compress a gas bubble to restart blood flow, allow more time to reabsorb gasses, saturate the body with concentrated O2.
Define In-Depth ORM.
Used before job implementation. (i.e. Dive Brief, Mission Brief, training/work-up dive.)
In Time Critical Risk Management: What are the 3 conditions you are Assessing?
Task loading, human factors, additive factors.
