balance and postural control Flashcards
What is the definition of balance?
The ability to move or remain in a position without losing control or falling.
What is the centre of pressure?
Vertical projection of centre of mass.
Define base of support.
Area of the object that is in contact with the ground.
What is the centre of mass?

- Base of support
What is static balance?
The ability to maintain the body in some fixed posture.
What is dynamic balance?
The ability to maintain balance while the body parts are in motion.
Give an example of static balance.
Unipedal (one foot) standing in a stable or unstable surface.
What does static balance require?

What is required for dynamic balance?
The body to be in a state of motion.
Provide an example of dynamic balance.
Jumping on one leg.
