Q

How is static equilibrium maintained by the Saccule and Utricule?

A

These fluid filled sacs have hair cells covered in otoliths. As these shift & move, the hairs bend and send signal to cerebellum

Q

How is dynamic equilibrium maintained?

A

By 3 semicircular canals. When the head moves side to side or back and forth, fluid moves to give info about DE

Q

What is an Ampulla and it’s function?

A

A pocket in a semicircular canal that holds a cupula. Cilia attached to hair cells in the cupulas bend as fluid moves, initiating an action potential
