Bail
The temporary release of an accused person awaiting trial, sometimes on the condition that a sum of money is lodged to guarantee their appearance in court.
Bail can be granted by a Court, Senior P.O or a bail justice.
Bail justice
A volunteer who is trained to read through bail applications, and decide is the suspect should be granted bail or not.
If someone is refused bail, they are held in custody, but at the next available chance they may be taken to court at the next available chance, as it is their right for a court to hear their application
Bail refused
-If you are charged with murder or treason (unless in exceptional circumstances)
-charged with drug trafficking
-already in custody for another crime
-considered to pose an unacceptable risk to society or is likely to,
Abscond,
Commit an offence while in bail,
Endanger the safety of the public,
Interfere with witnesses or obstruct the course of justice.
Remand/ summons
When you are refused bail, so you are held in custody whilst you await your trial.
A document stating when the accused will appear in court and what court they will appear in for their committed crime.
Committal hearing
An initial hearing in the magistrates court to determine whether the prosecution has enough evidence, to convict the suspects, of an indictable offence.
If they do not, the accused is released until sufficient evidence is found.
