Bacterial Review - Handout 1 Flashcards
What type of cell structure do fungi have?
Eukaryotic
What type of cell structure do protozoa have?
Eukaryotic
What type of cell structure do bacteria have?
Prokaryotic
Viruses
Are not alive and are referred to as particles.
Thus, they are neither prokaryotic nor eukaryotic.
Define species.
Groups of similar organisms within a genus.
Define strain.
A strain is a subset of a species that has a unique indentifiable feature.
What is the average size of a eukaryotic cell?
Most are greater than 5 microns. Many are 15-20 microns.
Remember, fungi are eukaryotes.
What is the average size of a bacterial cell?
0.5 - 3.0 microns
What is the average size for viruses?
5-300 nanometers
What is an endogenous disease?
A disease acquired from an organism within the body.
What is an exogenous disease?
A disease cause by an organism not normally in the body.
