What are bacteria?
Bacteria (singular: bacterium) are a large group of living things with a wide range of habitats.
Do bacteria feed in the same way as fungi?
Yes. Like fungi, bacteria feed by absorbing nutrients from the organic matter they grow on, such as dead plants and animals.
Are bacteria micro-organisms?
Yes.
What are micro-organisms?
They are tiny living things that cannot be seen with our naked eyes. They can only be seen under a microscope.
Why are bacteria micro-organisms?
Because they cannot be seen with our naked / bare eyes. They can only be seen under a microscope.
Why are bacteria and other micro-organisms living things?
Because they are made up of living cells and have the seven characteristics of living things.
What are the seven characteristics of living things?
- movement - living things move by themselves
- sensitivity - respond to changes in their surroundings
- growth - grow
- reproduction - reproduce
- air - need air to stay alive
- nutrition - need water and food to stay alive
- death - will die eventually
