What is Self-Confidence?
The belief or degree of certainty individuals possess about their ability to be successful in sport.
What are two types of sports self-confidence?
1)Trait sports confidence
2)State sports confidence
What is Trait confidence?
Is a relatively STABLE belief in your general level of sporting ABILITY based on your previous experiences.
(INDIVIDUAL PERSONALITY TRAIT)
What is State sports confidence?
The level of confidence that can be changed quite quickly and relates to the athletes confidence in their ability to perform in a particular sporting context.
(SITUATIONAL)
What is Self-efficacy?
a persons belief about their personal ability to successfully achieve the desired outcome.
What are the two types of Self-efficacy?
High self efficacy
Low self efficacy
What is High Self-efficacy?
Know what to do for success and we are very confident we can do it
What is Low self-efficacy?
We do not know what to do for success, or know what to do but lack the belief that we will be able to do it successfully.
What are the 4 factors Bandura suggested could influence a persons self-efficacy?

How would a coach increase a performers motivation using previous personal achievement to increase self-efficacy?
Coach to focus on athletes previous achievements and use positive reinforcement to improve self efficacy
How would a coach increase athletes motivation through vicarious experience by increasing self efficacy?
Coaches use other people to highlight there experiences. eg role modes
How would a coach increase athletes motivation using verbal persuasion by improving self efficacy?
Coaches may use positive or constructive feedback to athletes when they make mistakes.
