What to Avoid
vibration (long car rides, heavy equip), repetitive stress (set up home/office to avoid re-injury), sustained stress (postural awareness), valsalva, laxatives, raised toilet seat
Individual Instruction on
safe/neutral posture, review proper ways to lift/ carry, review proper ways to perform ADLs
Goal of Back School
Help pt understand their condition, independently manage their condition/ Sx, employ lifestyle changes (stress, diet, comorbidities)
Indications for Back School
awkward postures, movement patterns, pain brought on by movement, missing work, back pain, PMHx
Objective: Teach Patients
proper body mechanics, proper lifting techniques, adaptations for work/home, appropriate exercise, how to minimize frequency and intensity of exaccerbations
