Back Musculature Flashcards
Erector Spinae Origin and Insertion
Origin: Iliac crest of the pelvis, sacrum, spinous and transverse process T11-L5
Insertion: Ribs, Vertebrae, and base of skull
Erector Spinae Isolated and Integrated Function
Isolated Function: Concentrically accelerates spinal extension, rotation, and lateral flexion
Integrated Function: eccentrically decelerates spinal flexion, rotation, and lateral flexion, dynamically stabilizes the spine during functional movements
Quadratus Lumborum Origin and Insertion
Origin: Iliac crest
Insertion: 12th rib, transverse process L2-L5
Quadratus Lumborum Isolated and Integrated Function
Isolated Function: Spinal lateral flexion
Integrated Function: Eccentrically decelerates contralateral lateral spinal flexion, isometrically stabilizes the LPHC
Multifidus Origin and Insertion
Origin: Posterioir aspect of the sacrum, processes of the lumbar, thoracic, and cervical spine
Insertion: Spinous processes one to four segments above the origin
Multifidus Isolated and Integrated Function
Isolated Function:concentrically accelerates spinal extension and contralateral rotation
Integrated Function: eccentrically decelerates spinal flexion and rotation, isometrically stabilizes the spine
Latissimus Dorsi Origin and Insertion
Origin: Spinous processes of T7-T12, illac crest, thoracolumbar fascia, Ribs 9-12
Insertion: Inferior angle of the scapula, intertubercular groove of the humerus
Latissimus Dorsi Isolated and Integrated Function
Isolated Function: Eccentrically decelerates shoulder flexion, abduction, and external rotation, eccentrically decelerates spinal flexion, Isometrically stabilizes the LPHC
Integrated Function:
