Back Muscles Flashcards
Latissimus dorsi
Subscapular artery. Thoracodorsal nerve C6-C8.
Extends, adducts, and medially rotates humerus.
Trapezius
Transverse cervical artery (also acromial branch of supra scapular artery and dorsal branches of posterior intercostals). Motor innervation: CN XI (spinal accessory nerve). Sensory innervation: ventral rami of C3 and C4.
Superior portion elevates scapula
Middle: retracts scapula.
Inferior depresses scapula
Levator scapulae
Dorsal scapular artery and nerve. C3- C5. Elevates scapula.
Rhomboid major and minor
Dorsal scapular artery. Ventral rami via dorsal scapular nerve. C4, C5.
Adducts and elevates scapula
Serratus posterior superior
Posterior Intercostal arteries and dorsal scapular artery. Anterior rami of upper thoracic nerves and intercostal nerves. T2-T5. Elevates ribs 2-5.
Serratus posterior inferior
Lumbar arteries (from aorta). Anterior rami of lower thoracic nerves and intercostal nerves. T9-T12.
Depress ribs 9-12, prevents elevation when diaphragm contracts.
Splenius cervicis
Blood supply: aorta. Lower cervical nerves. C6-C8.
Head side to side, together elevate head
Erector spinae
ILS. Lateral sacral artery. Posterior branch of spinal nerve.
Transversospinalis
Dorsal Rami; lateral sacral artery, along with deep cervical arteries, posterior intercostal arteries, lumbar arteries
Semispinalis, multifidus, rotatores
