BA Procedures Flashcards
What is the role of the BA Entry Control Operation (ECO)? (5)
Nominated to monitor BA
Under the command of the Incident or Sector Commander
Completes Records of the Entry Control Board
Supervises Buddy Checks
Notifies Relevant Person of any issues, information or significant events.
What should BA wearers check in a buddy check? (7)
No exposed skin
Flash hoods fitted correctly
Thumb loops and gloves fitted
Cylinder valves fully open
Anti-Entanglement strap attached
Name and cylinder contents noted on tally
Comms check
What is the role of a BA Emergency team?
BA wearers designated to stand by an ECP, to give emergency assistance to BA wearers in distress.
Which Radio Channels are used for BA?
3 and 6
Where should an Entry control Point be sited? (5)
As close to the incident as possible, whilst maintaining safety.
In safe air, allowing BA wearers to perform pre-entry checks.
In such as position that, if the incident deteriorates, it will not be necessary to move
A focal point so that the ECO is easily located by all BA wearers.
One ECP can cover more than one entrance to a risk area.
What is the criteria for BA Stage 1? (3)
BA Operations that are limited and not complex.
The incident requires no more than one Entry Control Point
Incident requires no more than 6 BA wearers inside the risk area at a time.
What is the criteria for BA Rapid Deployment? (7)
Resources available are limited to implement Stage 1 in its entirety.
An opportunity exists to preserve life or take action to prevent deterioration of an
incident.
No more than 2 wearers.
Full Stage 1 procedures as soon as resources permit. (ECO in place)
Buddy checks, including gauge check and tallies entered in ECO board with name,
cylinder contents and ‘Time In’.
An appointed crew member must monitor BA wearers
A record of the ‘Time In’ must be recorded by an automated ECB
Incident Commander must have completed a suitable and sufficient risk assessment.
When taking over a board from rapid deployment, what must the ECO Do? (6)
Record time board is taken over.
Use rapid deployment clock to work out what time the crew entered.
Work out time of Whistle.
Get the BA team brief from the IC and fill in location column
Write rapid deployment in remarks
Overwrite Name, set number and time in.
What is the criteria for Stage 2? (3)
Complex BA operations, require a greater degree of control and supervision.
Incident Requires more than 1 Entry Control Point
Incident requires more than 6 BA Wearers in the risk area at a time.
What Criteria must a BA emergency team fulfill? (4)
Numbers in the BA Emergency team must be equal to that largest BA team deployed from the ECP.
Cylinder capacity must be at least equivalent to the highest capacity of those wearers in distress.
BA emergency teams should commit with the same equipment as the team they are
assisting
The BA emergency team must be provided with the equipment considered to be suitable and sufficient to meet the needs of all reasonably foreseeable emergency events
When should a BA Emergency team be committed? (5)
Any wearer fails to return to the Entry Control Point by the time calculated as the point at which their low-pressure warning device will activate and cannot be contacted by any means to confirm their safety and well-being.
A distress signal is heard – unless it can be immediately confirmed that it is due to accidental activation.
Where audible or visual indicators suggest a BA wearer appears to be in distress or imminent danger.
Prolonged unexplained breakdown in communications.
At the request of a BA wearer within the risk area
When is a Single BA wearer Permitted? (4)
Operations not within a building or structure.
An ECO is in place with full stage 1 procedures
The wearer can quickly be removed from the risk area.
The wearer is always in view of the Incident Commander or other nominated crew
member.
What are the duties of a BA wearer before entering a risk area? (5)
Receive and Confirm Brief
Don BA in safe air and carry out pre-entry checks.
Carry out buddy checks
Work out Turn Around Pressure
Hand BA tally to ECO before entering risk area.
What are the duties of a BA wearer inside a risk area (3)
Carry out BA Shuffle and Search techniques
Maintain verbal and physical contact with BA team members.
Carry out regular gauge checks whilst in the risk area
How do you calculate turn around pressure?
Actual Pressure (rounded down to nearest 10)
Add 70
Divide by 2.
