BA Flashcards
What is the breakdown of inhailed air?
Nitrogen = 79%
Oxygen = 21%
CO2 = Trace
Nitrogen % incliudes other rare gases
What is the breakdown of exhailed air?
Nitrogen = 79%
Oxygen = 17%
CO2 = 4%
Nitrogen % incliudes other rare gases
How is working duration calcualted?
Air Contents of cylinders (L)/Consumption Rate (60 L/m) - Exit/Decon time (mins)
ie. (2040L/60Lpm) - 10mins = 24mins
Define working duration?
- Its a notional figure that estimates the working duration of an air cylinder
- Uses a fixed breathing rate to account for a broad range of consumption rates
Explain the difference between open-circuit BA and closed-circuit BA?
Open-circuit BA
- Air that is exhaled by the BA wearer is expelled to the atmosphere.
- Working time of 24 mins
Closed-circuit BA
- The cylinder holds compressed oxygen, carbon dioxide is absorbed by the equipment and unused oxygen is re-circulated.
- Working time of up to 4 hrs
Define Emergency Evacuation Signal? How is it signaled?
- EES is used to signal rapid evacuation, cessation, or resumption of operations at a fire/incident site.
- Three short 1 second blasts, repeated every 10 seconds.
What is the flash hood removal procedure?
- Keep BA on
- Place 2 hands under the inside of the hood at the back of the head
- Move hands slowly upwards to start removing hood, then move hands forward over the face to finish removing the hood and leaving it hanging on the air line
- Ensure the outside of the hood stays away from any skin to avoid any contact with contaminated side
Why do we do a PACT check?
To assist FFs to practice, support and promote safe FF behaviour immediately prior to entering a hazardous environment when wearing BA.
