B8 Photosynethis Flashcards
What is the word equation for photosynthesis
Carbon dioxide + water —-> glucose + oxygen
Where does the carbon dioxide come from photosynthesis?
Diffuses into the plants via the stomata from the air
Where does the water come from in photosynethis?
The water is transported from the soil into the roots through osmosis. It is then taken through the xylem tube via transportation stream.
What is glucose used for in the photosynethis?
1) to strengthen cell walls
2) convert glucose into starch provides energy
3) to make amino acids to be built into proteins
4) adaptation of nitrate poor soil
What is oxygen used for in photosynethis?
It is used for respiration and is also diffused into the plant through the stomata
Say three ways that are leaves adapted for photosynethis?
1) most leaves are broad / for more light
2) most leaves are thin / diffusion distances are short
3) contain chlorophyll in chloroplasts / to absorb light
What leave adaptation is for gas?
They have guard cells that open and close the stomata to regulate gas exchange
What do the viens do for leaf adaptation
They have veins , which bring plenty of water in the xylem to the cells of the leaves snd remove the products of photosynethis in in the phloem.
Name some of the leaf adaptions
Broad leaves - big surface area
Thin - diffusion distances
Air space - carbon dioxide to get into cells
