B6: Homeostasis Flashcards
What is lipid made from
One molecule of glycerol and three fatty acids
Proteins made from
Glucose and Nitrate ions
Biproducts of anaerobic respiration in plants and yeast cells
Ethanol and carbon dioxide
What is positive phototropism
Growth TOWARDS the direction of light
What is negative geotropism
Growth AWAY from gravity
Describe effect of auxin on a plant shoot
auxin causes cell elongation
Auxin diffuses to the darker side of a cell meaning there is more growth there
This means the shoot grows towards the light
Describe effect of auxin on plant root
Slows down growth as in shoots
More auxin at the bottom of the root so slower growth
Roots downwards away from light
What does ethene do
Controls cell division and fruit ripening
For storage and transport delays time for ripening
What does gibberellin do
Initiates seed germination
Promote seed flowering and end dormancy
Where when what does adrenaline do
Adrenal glands
Times of fear and stress
Increases heart rate and delivery of oxygen and glucose to the brain
Where when what does thyroxine do
thyroid gland
At low body temperature pituitary gland releases TSH
Increases resting metabolism (rate of respiration) and. Increases formation oof glycogen,,,,lipids and proteins and excess proteins
What does ADH do
Increases kidney permeability when water levels are low in rest of the body which means urine is more concentrated because more water has been reabsorbed back into the blood
